Neumayer Station III
Antartica
The Alfred Wegener Institute AWI operates the Neumayer Station III as the base for German Antarctic research. In future, the research station will be increasingly powered by sustainable energy from sun and wind. A battery storage system will be retrofitted for electricity storage, which will be planned and approved in accordance with the regulations of the DNV ship classification society. The battery storage system and control unit will be manufactured and tested in Germany in two containers and transported by ship through several climate zones to Antarctica. Once on site, the system will have to operate in extreme environmental conditions and temperatures.
As a subcontractor to the general contractor METROPLAN we have taken on the challenging task of planning the technical building equipment. In the electrical engineering sector we are cooperating with our partner ComConsult.
